C6 Corvette Z06 Wrecked Into Swamp

Another American legend has been lost to the likes of the Florida wooly swamps often cited in Charlie Daniels slices of Americana tradition. It is unknown what caused the Corvette to become saturated with the likes of muck, gunk, and swamp thing excrement. Maybe a skunk ape jumped out in front of it? Maybe the creature from the black lagoon committed grand theft auto? We don’t know for sure, but we do know the outcome.

Florida roads are very dark, even with the best headlights money can afford. With the stock Corvette setup, it’s possible it still could not effectively light the path of the Z06 due to its low lamp height. There is a reason off road vehicles in Florida have auxiliary lighting! Most people want to accuse the owner of horse play, but the fact is that Florida roads are well known to have inadequate signage, low lighting, and random curves that only locals can avoid. Lamborghini’s New RWD Gallardo

You don’t have to have a Harvard MBA to realize that “more” is the four-letter word that drives the exotic supercar market. More power. More speed. More sex appeal. More exclusivity. And, let’s get real: when folks slide into the driver’s seat of an exotic, many of them wind up needing more room — for their egos. So what’s up with the latest-and-greatest Lamborghini Gallardo?

As its numeric designation indicates, the new 550-horsepower LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni gives up 10 ponies to the reigning mainstream model, the Gallardo LP 560-4. (Lucky you, if you’re in a tax bracket where a $233,000 car is mainsteam.) The 550-2 takes a couple tenths longer to sprint from zero to 62 mph (3.9 seconds vs. 3.7). The Baboni Gallardo even comes up short in the top speed department: 199 mph vs. a hair under 202 for the 560-4.

If this all sounds, well, backward, no one at Lamborghini will argue with you. If fact Valentino Balboni himself is the first to agree, because the car that bears his name is about going back — to basics. Basic, in this case, being rear-wheel-drive like the Countach and Miura.

NASCAR Suspends Three Crew Members On Drug Policy; 10 So Far This Season

The Associated Press is reporting that three NASCAR crewmen have been suspended from competition due to violations of the substance abuse policy. The story seems to indicate the the three were caught actually using drugs or a banned substance at the track, which was Bristol. We thought those guys were thrashing all weekend. No wonder they are always so cheery.

The report also says that, with these three, the total number of crew-member suspension for the season is ten. As we all know, Jeremy Mayfield is the only driver who has been whacked by the new system.

Ten guys is a fair amount. It seems that the mentality that they’ll not get caught doing stupid or illegal things is still in the forefront of the offenders’ brains. Not surprising as it sounds like they have been cooking brain cells for a while.

Spy Shots: The US Version of the 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan

Automotive Traveler magazine contributor Mark Fletcher shows why it’s always a good idea to keep your camera by your side as you never know when you’ll encounter a camouflaged prototype, in this case the US-spec version of Ford’s upcoming 2011 Fiesta.

While we know that the Ford Fiesta is coming to the North America next year, Ford is going to great lengths to keep front and rear details of the domestic version secret while the cars undergo their final validation tests. So while the 100 Fiestas currently taking part in Ford’s Fiesta Movement program gives us a good idea of its overall silhouette, we’ll still be seeking out the detail differences between the European and US versions. Yesterday, on his return trip from Las Vegas, Mark Fletcher hit pay dirt as he was able to capture some exceptionally clear images of Ford’s upcoming B-segment subcompact. Formula Drift Sonoma: Con-Tro-Ver-Sy

The cloud of controversy continues to float over drifting like so much Schleprockitude (judges, can I get a ruling on this word?). This weekend at the latest Formula Drift event at Sonoma, the drama continued.

This season we’ve seen D1 take its lumps over the behavior of a certain team (rhymes with orange) and FD has been dealing with the legality of certain cars in a sport already stacked with such an eclectic mix of hardware. And yet, through it all, one man and his online outlet have raked through the muck to tackle these tough issues. And that man is Wrecked Magazine’s Joey Redmond. Joey does not provide any dramatic montage vid clips, nor artsy imagery and flowery prose, not even harsh critiques of stance and wheel offset. No, this guy delivers the goods and is quickly becoming the Walter Freakin’ Cronkite of the drift world, only with more breathing and less grammar (hey, Joey, spel chek, yo!).

Wrecked is the only outlet to break the news on the ruling on yesterday’s top 32 battle between current points leader Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan. Click here, here or here for more on this matter.

As a fan of drifting and Formula Drift I hope this can get worked out. As a wannabe I’m a huge proponent of the skill and stones these pro drifters have to fling a car sideways at near triple-digit speeds inches away from another car doing the same thing. I’m also a huge fan of the great show put on by Formula Drift. Which begs the eternal question, is drifting a motorsport or a show? The top 16 are running today, check out StreetFire.net for video from the weekend and the Wrecked Magazine blog for more hard-hitting reports.
