Steve Saleen announces 2010 Signature Series Mustangs

The 2010 Ford Mustang made its debut just a few weeks ago at the LA Auto Show and already various tuners around the country are preparing their variants based on the new model. Steve Saleen has beat everyone to the punch and is the first to announce his new lineup called the Signature Series 460 Mustangs. Each will feature a supercharged version of Ford's 4.6L V8 starting at 475 horsepower and going all the way up to over 650 raging ponies underneath the hood. Keep in mind that the mechanicals of the 2010 Mustang are carried over from the current model, so we should expect the aftermarket industry to carry over their performance parts for the 4.6L V8, as well. Aerodynamic enhancements for the SMS Mustang will be penned by noted designer Phil Frank, and the cars will also feature upgrades for the drivetrain, suspension, tires, wheels and more upscale interior. More details can be found in the SMS press release after the jump.

1969 Ford Mustang [Down On The Street]

Welcome to Down On The Street, where we admire old vehicles found parked on the streets of the Island That Rust Forgot: Alameda, California. It's Mustang time again, and we're on our eleventh so far in the series, after this '65 GT, this '65, this '66, this '66, this '68, this '69 fastback, this '73 convertible, this '76, this '86 SVO, and this '86 LX.

Since we've seen only one first-gen Camaro so far, there's been a lot of speculation about why so many more Mustangs are still on the street; sure, more Mustangs were sold, but not by this kind of margin. The consensus seems to be that first-gen Camaros are simply worth more than first-gen Mustangs, partly because the insane power-per-dollar ratio of the small-block Chevy engine made it that much easier for bemulleted hoons to destroy Camaros back in the 1970s.

This Mustang is in great shape for a street-driven transportation car; it would get scoffed at by the show judges, but we don't care. We might not choose these wheels or the gold stripes for our own vintage Ford, but there's nothing too ridiculous here.

DSC_0183-edited.jpg picture by willfusion

Following the Pony Run cruise of the Blue Ridge Parkway on Saturday in Asheville, NC the Blue Ridge Mustang Club held a car show at the Biltmore Square Mall. Good food, prizes and raffle drawings were held for all who attended but the cars themselves were the show. With over 300 cars participating in the cruise and a good many of them staying for the car show there were plenty of Ponies to wet your appetite.

One of the participants of the event put together a small video of their experience. To enjoy the cruise from the passenger seat of a Pony click here. (more…)

Gun-Barrel-Equipped Hummer, Monte Carlo, Mustang II Send Swedes Fleeing In Panic [Down On The Street Bonus Edition]

This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition, where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot. Today we've got some really puzzling cars found down on the Gotland, Sweden street by RobHolcombe. Yes, the same guy who shot the legendary Turk & Stanyon cars in San Francisco had his camera while on a Baltic visit… and the mind reels when trying to imagine what Swedes make of the most Hummer-parody Hummer we've ever seen. Jump away to see all the photos and read Rob's description.

As promised a while back! Some shots of some Detroit steel as found on the streets of Gotland, Sweden....a great big island in the middle of the Baltic. Maybe there's something here you wanna post...maybe not.

Here's the shots of a god awful Hummer H2. Who in their right mind pays to gas that thing up at $10 + / gallon? I can't even imagine with all the great european cars out there. There's a word for it but I'll skip the potty mouth. Imagine that! I mean check out the freaking chromed machine gunnies on the hood (and note the playboy chick on the hood too!). And for the piece de resistance we have the American Flag door pulls....I risked life and limb getting that shot. Who knows where the muscle head was.....

And then this old Mustang fastback? 1974? 1975? I love the racing stripes and the rust....racing to its end!

And finally the Monte Carlo....huh???? I mean of ALL cars.....
