Final cruise-in of the season brings out some hi-po, some oddball

August 20 2009 Hemmings cruisein

Last cruise-in of the season last night. Good weather, good number of vehicles, great mix of trucks, muscle, classics, Europeans and the miscellany that we love.

Back in the corner of the lot, spotted Ken Gypson's 1971 Ford F350 flatbed dually. Cool, but what's he trailering?Ah, that's his 1930s Dryer (Dreyer?) sprint car. Built by George Gravell of Schenectady. Very cool. But what's that powering the sprinter?Oooh, a HAL crossflow double-overhead cam head on a Model B four-banger. Wicked cool.Cliff Duncan of Wilmington, Vermont, brought out his 1969 VW Vandetta......which he powered with an RX-7's 13B supercharged rotary engineTruman Southworth, from right here in Bennington, brought out his 1984 Toyota pickup. Didn't ask him what his RTI wasAnother Benningtonian, Dave Anderson, showed off his 1966 Honda 305cc Super HawkNot a great shot, but I was a bit floored when this 1996 Corvette Gran Sport and 1995 Corvette ZR-1 arrived together. Pete Pallotta of Dublin, New Hampshire, owns bothWe did notice a lot of late-model muscle in the parking lot last night. Mostly S197 Mustangs, like the one on the right, but a couple Challengers, including the B5 Classic version, and the aforementioned C4 Gran Sport Corvetteboogie van!Tim Cloutier of Swanzey, New Hampshire, brought out this 1997 Viper, supercharged and encrusted with Shelby signatures. Allegedly one of one, out of a planned run of 25
